“You live it once, but you know what? When we write, we taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”

~ Anai Nin

Let your thoughts gush out of your heads and fallout as a beautiful piece of art in the form of words.

But tired enough to fall into the pit again and again?

Here are some hacks that shall help you find your motivation in writing throughout your career as a content writer.

17 Hacks to Find your Motivation in Writing

Remind yourself the ‘WHY’ behind your writing

It’s all about realizing the value you get from writing and finding the purpose to do so. It won’t be a burden anymore but a motivation to write more. You’ll fall in love with its soothing essence.

Write your first draft even if horrible

Look! We all have this problem of plucking out words as we write to impress our readers.

But, I say forget about being perfect! Just push out your first draft as it’s easier to mend a rough draft than to create something entirely from scratch.

Look at the old comments

Remember how anxious and nervous you were when your first post was out?

And how excited you got when you got to know someone far away from you enjoyed your story and dropped a note?

How eager you were to write the next piece! Isn’t that enough of a motivation in writing?

Listen to the music that eases your writing

Music gives a kick to start anything– from house parties to workouts. Yes, to writing as well.

It helps you lighten your mind and loosen up the threads of stress which refreshes you and paves the way for distinctive ideas to flow into your mind.

Hangout with successful and self-driven people

You are known by the company you belong to.

So, by surrounding yourself with people who have accomplished or will accomplish great things, you’ll feel more motivated to start writing by hearing their inspirational stories.

Workout if you want to be productive

In the opinion of majority, we hate working out, but the hidden fact is that it cures unmotivated minds!

As your body moves, it pumps more oxygen to your brain which gives your brain the energy to think of fresh ideas to write down.

Bang on to coffee, tea, or anything that contains caffeine

Looking for a perfect place to write? Think where most of the writers are found!

Yes, you got it right! It’s a coffee house! Coffee which contains caffeine helps you to focus and has the tendency to make you feel that you’re on the top of the game.

And when you feel good about yourself, it’s the greatest motivation in writing.

Be physically comfortable

Sit in a comfortable chair which helps you maintain a correct posture. Adjust the room temperature as per your comfort. Find a quiet, clean and well lit place to write.

Writing requires focus which further requires concentration which means distractions need to be eliminated.

The environment for writing should be such that it should not be able to sap off your energy. That’s the key to your quality stories.

Use tools to help you write better

If you have tools such as Grammarly, plagiarism checking etc., they help you speed up your writing and spare you some productive time.

This boosts your mood to pump out more content to write as the process of writing is simplified without hampering your desired results.

Write something that’s been in your mind recently

Think about something which bugs you up. Think about how you feel about someone/something. It is much easier to write your personal thoughts as it works similar to a stress buster.

When you fall into emotions, your mind fires out all those thoughts that were contained in for too long.

When you put them on paper, you just let them out. In short, pour out your heart.

Talk to other writers

Tweet to your favorite writers. Email the bloggers you admire the most to seek advices from them.

You’re not the only one dealing with this; there are many others who are sailing in the same ship.

Write about something you can teach

Talk about your talent/expertise. Share your personal experiences, what you’ve learnt from them and what you can advice others from your experiences.

It’ll all pay off when people keep coming back to you to seek advices related to your subject.

Make an announcement online that you’ll write every day

By telling the entire world that you’ll write everyday gives you enough motivation in writing on a daily basis.

Why? Because failing in public is more shameful than breaking your own promises and deadlines.

Read a story

Reading online/offline is like giving your brain a massage as it takes its own pace to work.

Ruskin Bond once called books as “King’s Treasures”-treasuries not filled with gold, silver and precious stones, but with riches more valuable than these i.e., knowledge, noble thoughts, and high ideals.

Reading is a good way to gather ideas for your content and provide the necessary motivation in writing.

Treat yourself for writing

Your mind secretly craves for rewards when you do good work. Think about the paychecks, bonuses, promotions you receive which motivate you to work harder and perform better.

Same goes for writing. Reward yourself after reaching a checkpoint. So, you won’t hesitate to write more.

Diversify your work environment

Switch your environment if it bores you. Having a dedicated work space makes it easier to switch into a ‘work mode’ but does it really work in the long run?

The answer is no.

It creates a resistance in bringing up new ideas. In that case, try a new environment to have a kick start, such as a coffee shop, library, book store, etc.

Modify your schedule

Change your time to write. If you start your day by writing, try out writing at night. Mix up your routine for a change because a strict writing routine will demotivate you.

So, instead of going to the gym after work, hang out with a friend for a snack. These changes act as a catalyst for your brain and equip you with enough encouragement to perform better.

So, did you find your motivation in writing?

Writing takes sheer commitment, self-discipline, and desire. However, sometimes it does get boring, and you’re tempted to make an excuse for not writing.

I know it’s hard, but now you know the ways to find your motivation in writing. Right?

There are many problems content writers face but the trick is to throw away the demotivated attitude using the above hacks, and bring back the fuel you need to write.

Try out these hacks and let us know how effective these were to you in the comments!
