6 Easy Content Writing Tips for Quick and Outstanding Content

1. Do your research

BEWARE!

content-writing-tips-research-topic-before

Never start writing blindly. Before you begin, research to:

  • Understand the topic/product/service you are writing about. ALWAYS look up 10-15 reliable sites on Google for your concerned topic and NOTE the major points.
  • Know the purpose of your content piece; is it to drive sales, increase website traffic, inform the readers, etc. (Like this article informs newbie writers on how to write good content quickly)
  • The required tone for the content, whether casual, professional or academic.
  • Who is the intended reader of the content–their age, gender, location, personality, etc.? (Like this post is for young writers in 20-25 years age group)
  • What is/are the focus keywords to use in the content?

So, my foremost content writing tip:

Excellent research on the topic and for the keywords is imperative to write good content.

2. Plan your piece

Let’s move forward with my content writing tips.

After research, plan your piece of content before writing.

Now, what does that mean?

Create an outline of the major points you will write in your article, just like a painter makes a rough sketch of his impending craft.

This keeps your content on-track, covers all the important areas, and gets the intended message across the readers.

Look below how I created an outline before writing this blog post:

Follow this format when creating your content outline:

  • A catchy headline that tells what the content is about. Use the tool, Co-schedule Headline Analyzer. Type-in your intended headline(s) and select the one that shows a GREEN score. (See below)

  • Short and sweet “Introduction” to create suspense amongst the readers and inspire them to read further.
  • “Body of the content” with major facts as a list/bullet points.
  • Conclusion with a powerful call-to-action for the readers.

Content Writing Tips: Which calls-to-action to use in your content?

Here are a few examples of the calls-to-action you can incorporate in any blog post or landing page:

  • Download resource. Download a free guide for more expert tips about the topic you write.
  • Subscribe to the newsletter. Sign up for unique resources in your inbox each week.
  • Get a demo. Schedule a free demo of the tool/software.
  • Share the content on social media.
  • Make a purchase. Click here and use the offer code “XYZ” to save 25% on the purchase of a product/service.

3. Write freely

That’s my favourite amongst all the content writing tips.

Though I search for the keywords before writing the post, I optimise it later and recommend you the same.

Always write freely, keeping your ideal reader in mind.

Optimise your content for the search engines after completing your first draft, otherwise, you might get biased and stuff keywords compromising the content’s quality.

BONUS content writing tips to remember:

  1. Write in an active voice as far as possible.
  2. Use short sentences and brief paragraphs not exceeding 3-4 lines.
  3. Use subheadings to divide your content and capture the reader’s attention.
  4. If you can explain using one/two words, use it rather than long and complex sentences.
  5. Hyperlink to the sources you refer to.
  6. Stick to one core point in your content.
  7. Create an emotional impact on the readers with your content.

4. Optimise your content

As said, I always do it later to avoid keyword stuffing and make my writing more natural.

Remember, keywords are only a part of SEO. The other important part is Readability.

If your content is not readable because of keyword stuffing, you are likely to lose your rankings in search engines.

So give equal weight to keywords and readability of your content. That’s why optimise with keywords after writing your first draft.

Places where you must use your keyword:

  • Heading/Title
  • Introduction
  • Body of the content  – use keyword within every 100 words
  • Subheadings
  • Conclusion
  • URL of the post
  • Meta-description
  • Alt tags of images

If you use WordPress, Yoast or Rank Math can help you nail the SEO.

5. Support with visuals

HubSpot reports that content with relevant images gets 94% more views than the content without. Content without images feels cluttered and boring to consume.

So add interesting images to your content to increase the time on site and encourage people to click on the content.

Use free images from Google or Pixabay, Pexels, etc.

6. Edit your content

All content writing tips will go in vain if you don’t edit your content.

ALWAYS ask a friend or a colleague to edit your content.

OR if you are alone,

Don’t self-edit your work on the same day or immediately after writing.

Leave it for several hours and come back to give it a fresh pair of eyes.

Plus, proofread and edit your work at least 3 times.

With many editing tools at our disposal, it’s ONLY natural to use them spontaneously after writing the content.

But, keep editing tools for the last round. Edit your work manually 2 times before using any tool.

  1. First, check for the sentence structure and flow of the content. Is any sentence too long? Is the flow logical?
  2. Check for any spelling, grammar, and typing errors.
  3. Scrutinise your editing with tools like Grammarly, Prowritingaid, etc.

  3. Proofreading your written content once before posting it is the most important thing to avoid mistakes. Many of the times we couldn’t find the mistakes while writing. So, its a good suggestion to re-read that after sometime or even next day.
