HOMOEOPATHY – being practised for over a century, still faces doubts, myths, and questions; not only from the common man, but also the medical and healthcare community.
Though patients share its positive outcomes, eyebrows are nevertheless raised over its speed of action and efficacy.
We often hear the words from our medical counterparts, “Homoeopathy may be effective, but is slow to act.”
And that’s not the end…there are more fables surrounding it.
Being a homoeopathic practitioner, therefore, it’s my foremost duty to bust these myths about homoeopathy and reveal the truth to you, backed by scientific evidence.
So, I’ve created this mini blog series – Myths vs Reality in Homoeopathy.
What to expect from this series?
Each blog post will take one commonly held myth about homoeopathy and break it down with:
- Clinical insights from real-world practice
- Scientific perspectives wherever available
- Balanced discussions aimed at healthcare professionals, health coaches, and health brands
What will be different about this series?
This isn’t about defending homoeopathy blindly. It’s about engaging in open, professional dialogue. My aim is not just to share personal experience, but to invite a broader understanding — so that myths don’t cloud what homoeopathy can or cannot do.
Who Should Read This?
- Allopathic doctors skeptical about homoeopathy’s scope
- Health coaches seeking reliable insights for their clients
- Healthcare brands exploring integrative and evidence-informed approaches
First Myth about Homoeopathy
Does homoeopathy work slowly?
That’s the most common misconception, and one that often keeps people from considering homoeopathy in acute care.
Let’s see where this misconception stems from!
People, be it a common man or a health professional, often associate homoeopathy with ONLY chronic cases — arthritis, eczema, asthma, migraines, etc., where patients turn to it after years of conventional/allopathic treatment. Since these conditions already have a long history, improvement takes time. This reinforces the perception that homoeopathy works slowly.
But in reality, homoeopathy can act remarkably fast in acute cases when the remedy matches the patient’s presentation of symptoms.
To support this, consider the following case study.
A 40-year-old male patient (name can’t be revealed) came to me in July with the following complaints:
- High fever for the past 15 days, mostly in the evening after 7 pm
- Body ache
- Feeling chilly at every bout of temperature rise
- Extreme weakness
He had taken 3 courses of antibiotics without any relief.
I prescribed him 2 doses of the appropriate homoeopathic medicine and asked him to report to me the next day about his fever.
Can you expect what the patient told me the next day over the call?
“Doctor, I didn’t get any fever for the whole day today, and my body ache is better too”
So you see, relief is visible within minutes to hours with the right homoeopathic medicine in acute conditions.
But the myth persists because……
- Most people encounter homoeopathy only after chronic suffering
- Lack of awareness of acute case management in homoeopathy
The Takeaway
The time to see visible results in homoeopathy depends on the type of case (acute/chronic), stage of the disease and the prescription.
Homoeopathy is an individualised system of medicine. In chronic conditions, a cure may take time because the disease has been there for years. But in acute cases, with the right prescription, homoeopathy can act faster than expected.
